I noticed that this website is running on phpBB3 system. What is the best PHP forum software out there, either free or open source?

I see even steven division between phpbb and vbulletin. I think it might be swinging towards vbulletin. Are there any other competitors out there?

I voted for phpbb, simply bacause I am using it and so far it works well. The feedback I received is that it works and loads fast. I also researched it and it turns out that phpbb has quite good support.

Hi Maxseo

This site loads pretty fast in the browser. I am not sure whether it is your hosting, or because the forum is still young and has not much content or maybe because you still did not implement many mods.

Some of the obvious why vBulletin seem like a preferred option are:

  • SEO Friendly URLs
  • Post Rating
  • Active Users viewing thread shown
  • Much better admin area

I've always had good experiences with phpBB and I've found it easy to instigate duel login with joomla based sites which was a lifesaver for me.
