I think PR is overrated. Many forums that I visit these days, state the same. There is something about PR that attracts new SEO comers. It's that little green rectangle. Perhaps its hypnotic or something.

Pagerank was introduced in the begenning by Google. But now its only still here with us, because anything that creates buzz around company is good. Otherwise it's uselss in my opinion. Others my disagree.

To summarise I think PR is just PR (public relations) STUNT!!! these days, I mean

Kapitan,

you are right. I agree that its 100% overrated. But a fact is as its widely accepted and valued we people are forced to care about it. Especially it helps us when we make some sales with our websites. I think better PR sites get better price. Don't know what the others think about this.

By selling PR, your site can get banned

I think a bit of clarification is in order!

PR as reported by the toolbar is over-rated. However, the concept that Google rates and values links in order to determine the popularity of a given page-- and thus the actual value of any link on that page-- is still extremely important.

I usually try to gauge the actual link popularity of a page by watching how often Google crawls the page. I also try to work out Google's trust filter as well by the way a site is sometimes displayed in the SERPS.

For example, currently, a search for a term I rank for "healing clay" yields a SERP result that notices that the homepage was updated seven hours ago. The PR of the homepage of the site is only a 3...but it is spidered far more frequently than many PR 4/5 websites.

Furthermore, some sites have a PR5, but all subpages have a PR0, and all third-level pages have simply been dropped from Google's cache. In such a case, the PR5 homepage is very misleading.

I think the PR is important, but there are other factors like age of domain, the niche, outbound links, number of visitors per day.

The general consensus is that PageRank is not as important for your site, as it is for other sites linking to your site. That is, you get more credibility if a highly ranked and trusted site links to yours.

It is fact that PR is over-rated yet we can't deny its importance & sense of indication at all.So I keep considering it & try to improve it also frequently.

I do... almost everyone are talking about it and give emphasis that it is important so i think i should consider getting a high page rank as well. :-)
