advertising space to other content ratio?

Hi all,

How much space on my pages I shoud dedicate to ads without turning the site into a christmas tree full of colourful banners? Is there a common denomitator?

Well it's something that you have to approach with trial and error method. But it was me, I would mix it up so that 90% is content and 10% is ads.

It also depends which type of ads are you using?

The most effective locations for the ads are in the left column, top banner and at the end of page.

That's about right... users come to your site to get some info, get some answers. When they land on your pages and there is nothing to attract them but Ads, they will hit that BACK button.

BTW, I have read on the net that Google can detect the bounce rates and times. And having non sticky content is dangerous...

You should use one or 2 banners of 250x250 pixels to keep normal.
