Hi All

Let me start by welcoming you to webmasterforum.com.au. I have created this site with hope of creating one of the most dynamic forums in australia. You might say, but why?? It has been done before etc..

Well, let's just say it's a challenge and I am motivated to succeed. Creating dynamic forum was always something I hoped to achieve.

As the site becomes more busy and I will learn more about running a forum, I will be looking for moderators for various categories.

For now, I just want to say, feel free to start any new topics and I am hoping that you will visit often.

Cheers,
Jack

Hi,

Just signed up and wanted to firstly say good luck with your task - it's a big one given the competition out there - but I hope you succeed.

Getting going and getting some regular members who actually feel at home and actually care will be your biggest task. One thing I would suggest (it's a bit "black hat" but there you go) is if you don't get enough genuine members for it to look busy there are companies out there (indian mainly) who you can pay to get your forum going - they sign up a few members at the start, ask and answer questions etc etc to make it look busy - noone likes to be first somewhere (well maybe except me), and this can be a good way to get it going - but could also bring it down if the posts are too bad. Not a recommendation, just a thought - and hey it's only the first day so you may not ever need this.

One VERY IMPORTANT suggestion - the captcha on your signup is really really annoying and needs replacing. I don't meant the concept of captchas, just your version in particular. It took me five or so goes to get it right, and it then banned me for a couple minutes for too many tries - I would get any other one i've seen right on other sites in 1 or 2 goes, this one is just bad. This is mainly due to the fact it pops up a 0 or O nearly every time, and it's a bit of a guess which it is, plus is may also be case sensitive i'm not sure. When just starting out you want to make it a bit easier, as you need people more than they need you in the early stages - that will of course change later!

Re moderators, i'd possibly be very interested in this, but obviously only if there were enough here to make it fun - and being here so early on i'd love to be considered!

Again best of luck
Matt Cummins

Thanks Matt

I am still going thru some configuration changes. I enabled different captcha module. This one seems more clear.

I never knew about companies offering services such as joining forums and posting; sounds tempting but I will wait and see... I have few ideas how to grow the forum, initially mainly via other forums, mates from work and mainly good SEO.

I will keep in mind your moderator offer

Cheers

Hi Maxseo,

I had something I wanted to private message you, but I can't for the life of me find it on this system. Can you let me know where it is?
Other boards I am a member of allow you to right click and select view profile or send private message - not sure if it's the forum software you are using, but this doesn't seem to work here!

Matt

Hi Matt

Strange, it worked ok for me, I clicked on the username, and on the left hand side there were all the contact options, one of them being pm.

Cheers,
Jack
