I am interested in things such as:

- forum template
- forum functionality, perhaps some of you had good experience with phpbb and can recommend some mods
- domain name (catchy or not catchy)
- logo

Thanks and Cheers

I am not sure if phpbb forums offer a mod for search engine friendly URL's, meaning having keywords in the URL itself. Perhaps .htaccess rewrites would be good.

The BBCode URL insertion could be improved by using Javascript prompt.

Thanks so much for the feedback.

I recently enabled quick reply for most of the forums. I think its much more convenient feature.

I also tried doing the url and img insertion via javascript prompts. What I oberved that on this and many other forum sites, the javascript prompts cause the IE security message to appear in the top of the screen. It will not work until you enable sripted windows or something like that.

I decided not use because it can be annoying. Perhaps other option will be to use a popup div or something like that.

The forum is starting to take form well in terms of number of posts. However having used this one based on PHPbb and others based on vbulletin, I would have to say PHPbb is a long way behind in terms of user experience.

Probably not a lot you can do now that you have selected a backend and are already going, but even inserting a link on forums built on PHPbb is an absolute pain compared to the simplicity of vbulletin. I probably wouldn't bother changing now that you have started (too big a job), but if you ever start any different forums I would definately look at the alternative!

You are right. With the time I had to spend on mods, just to make it SEO friendly, and other things such as Last post title etc, I should have just invested around $300 in vbulletin.

I think my headaches might start with the version upgrades.

For now, luckily I am at least not getting any errors, with few updates, I did.

The URL BBCode insertion, I attempted but where not happy with it. I'll give it one more try.

- forum template (looks easy on the eye)
- forum functionality (loads fast, no problems there)
- domain name (very generic)
- logo (just ok)

Generic domain name is good! I'm not sure why someone would see that as a bad thing - i think this is a real strength of the site as it takes a lot less marketing effort to get people to remember it (we don't all have google sized budgets).

There seems to be several posts on here knocking generic keyword based domain names which I find really strange. If you were to head over to here: Domain Name Trade Australia you would find the exact opposite opinion on generic names, from those in the business making money buying and selling domain names.

Yeah Maxseo

Webmasterforum.com.au is a great domain and great catch, do you wanna sell? I will give you $100. Just joking

Keep up good work, nice forum. I've spotted some spammers copying and pasting some posts from other forums. Great catch. Next time I went to that post, it wasn't there.
