I want to know how to check the traffic status like from which country, site or search engine are the traffic to my site coming from. Are they any tools available? Or is there any other method?

Yes you can use google analytics. It will show you a detailed report of your website traffic.

As pirataye said, Google Analytics(GA) is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website. GA can track visitors from all referrers, including search engines, display advertising, pay-per-click networks, email marketing and digital collateral such as links within PDF documents.
Each profile that you create have traffic source option which will give you the traffic details about direct, referral and search engine.

Would you guys recommend GA over other Web statistics packages that you host in your own server??? I've been seeing differences in both GA results and Webstats... I wonder which one is more reliable?

I'm using google web analytics to check the traffic status.I'm also using alexa to get my traffic stats.But google analytics work best.There are some other tools too yo may use,statcounter is worth to mention.

Yes I am agree with donvale, Google analytics is show how many visitor's visit on your site. this is easy path.

You can subscribe to Google Analytics. Sign in with your google account, paste a small snippet of code available in Google Analytics after signing in. The google analytical work very satisfactory. You can also access Google's webmaster. The webmaster can see a different view of their links as well as any problems, links with internal or external link. Place your site in the Google index, how many pages are indexed by Google.

Google analytics will helps you to get detailed statistics about visitors, even though it will show you high level dashboard type data and even more in depth data, you can identify poor performing pages using technique such as funnel visualization.
