DMOZ is probably one of the hardest directories to get into. I always thought that you have to help yourself financially to get listed there, till I got lucky and I had one of my sites included. This happened after 10 submissions of other sites.

All this 4 or 5 years ago. I haven't tried again since then.

Anyone had recent experience with DMOZ submission? Has anything improved? I thought perhaps I could attempt to submit this forum.

Tough and sometimes almost impossible to get into.

I've almost always only had luck submitting to regional sections - ie submit to the city where you have an offline address, not to the general category.

I've had two sites accepted into DMOZ, one took only about 1 month, the other took about 1-2 years, both were "offline" businesses. Never had success submitting an online only business.

Unfortunately I still believe it's worth being in, but don't worry too much about it, and definately do go for the regional sections.

I never attempted to submit, but I heard you can wait years to get reviewed

Well then, just submit as well as you can, and than don't even wait for it and one day you might find your site there.

Does DMOZ even notify upon successful inclusion?

We have been waiting 6 months since putting in a submission. From what I have read we might have to wait years!

I had some success with getting a few sites listed 3 years ago but have since given up.. some categories are not worth the trouble

I submitted a couple of years ago and have not heard anything back - a shopfront store with a online shop.
No joy at present.
It is so tedious anyways.
I never see the dmoz results in yahoo site explorer for other sites either.
Is there a reason for this?
