Some hosting providers offer unlimited bandwidth or other resources. Is this type of a promise even possible?

What's the catch?

By offering low transfer speeds, are they relying on the fact that it will take one hour toload a page?

Has anyone came across hosting that is unlimited and fast at the same time?

There is no catch. Basicaly they are dodgy hosting companies offering the sky and then closing your account if your site gets more traffic.

Well that really is the catch then isn't it - the fact they close your account if you get too much traffic and claim "fair use policy" or something like that!

(BTW I agree - unlimited companies are never unlimited when you read the fine print).

Yes, it is possible. I use Kwel Hosting http://www.kwelhosting.com for some time and service is excellent, when you mention unlimited traffic, that is exactly what we talk about here...for 14.99/month you can have unlimited disc space and traffic as well, together with unlimited number of SQL databases, ideal for any kind of shared hosting if necessary. Look into that. ;-)

It's reasonably straightforward - They take the maximum download speed then multiply X 84 ie 84hrs weekly which is 50% of the maximum hrs in a week then extrapolate it for a month and figure that covers their their total bandwidth per head then multiply by the number of subscribers and cost their bandwidth commensurately. Much like a casino - no matter what happens the house wins.
Of course the customer thinks he is doing well but the advertised download speed is rarely reached as customers sign up and capacity is stretched resulting in a degraded service.
